Today is my birthday.
I'm 40- I'm not sure why this is seen as a big deal but apparently it is. I'm at that age now, the big 4-0 where all my friends and coworkers are off doing super cool things to celebrate- 30 people ski weekends, trips to the East Coast, parties at the hot spots in town, trips to Vegas. What did I do? Laundry, backyard clean up, baked dog treats for the kid's latest SPCA fundraiser, had dinner with my family.
To be fair we did kind of roll all kinds of milestones into our November Hawaii trip: The Husbands birthday, my birthday, Christmas, 10th year anniversary (plus 1year) and so on.
I think I'll save my awesome party for 50, which gives me exactly 10 years to plan it.
That doesn't mean I'll just brush 40 off. I've been thinking about doing something new with this space. Yes, there will still be the usual food, ramblings, get back to Friday Food Fun(eventually), and Is Your Kid Wineing, but new this year - The Girl Guide Badge Project.
Here's the thing, a few years back I borrowed the book 'You Can Do It' from the library. It's kind of a Girl Guide/Scout Badge book for adults. It's got some fun stuff (and stickers) but then I got thinking I already have a badge book - the Guide handbook. With The Kid is in Guides this year I have started looking more at some of the individual interest bades. As a leader there were some standard ones we did as a group, but some we never touched - like farmer or chemistry badges.
Looking through now as a mom I realize that dome of these badges are super easy and some are really damn hard (like the Sailing badge which requires completion of the Boat Safety Badge first - which requires doing 17 activities bt I'm thinking if I take the BC Boat License certification I might give myself a pass)!
Exactly how hard or easy are the rest of the badges? Let's find out. Let's earn some badges!
Here are the rules:
- Like in real life, to get the badge it has to have been done during my time "in Guides". I'll use The Kid's timeline - she started as a Guide in September so anything I've done since then (and have proof of) since then counts. That means I can count thing like reading a book from a series (for the Reading badge), but not of the First Aid stuff that I am already certified in (for First Aid)
- There should be proof. Bonus to those of you who are Guiders/Scouters: I'll be posting my answers to badge questions, research, charts and tracking systems as well as tips/tricks to completing the badge
- Now the tough one - I have to decide the order of badges. I'll go alphabetical, but will also need to do some out of order at the same time (like Fun and Fitness, which requires tracking exercise for a month). So that means I'll be starting with Aeronautics.
Ready? Set? Go!
I love you old gal. ❤️ everyday spent you keeps me young at heart, and sane!
