Here is a fun and pretty simple craft to do with kids, Girl Guide Units, or just on your own. We've made block elves with the Pathfinders a couple of times now, and they always turn out great. Here is what you need:
Felt (two colours is best)
Wooden Alphabet Blocks
A round wooden bead for the head (not sure exactly the size but I'm sure you can figure it out based on the size of the alphabet block)
Bells, ribbons, or puff balls for decoration if you want
Glue - I think a hot glue gun is best
1. Cut out the collar, legs, arms and hat from felt.
2. Glue the legs to the bottom of the alphabet block, and glue the arms on to the top of the block
3. Put a bead of glue on top of the arms and stick the collar on. **Just a note about the collar, if you have pinking shears you can cut around the collar to make it frilly looking. It's super cute but I don't havep0inking shears so I couldn't do it.
4 Glue the hat to the head bead. I like to draw a line of glue around the bottom edge of the hat and stick it to the head.
5. Once the hat is on, glue the two sides together (this makes a tall pointy hat). I like to fold the hat over and glue it to the side of the hat to make a folded over looking hat. Omce the hat is glued together glue the head to the body of your elf and you are done!
To add some extra flair to your elves by gluing some ribbon around the base of the hat, or the base of the block. Sew a bell to the tip of the hat, or some puff balls to the arms or legs to look like hands and feet. Use your imagination.
